After spending a month on his hospital bed after living in the GCC for 40 years, 59-year-old K. Raveendran Nair left to his home town in Kerala, India, yesterday, but not as he wished.

Nair, who worked as a stone mason in various companies in the UAE for 13 years, was flown to Thiruvananthapuram on an Air India flight with specially provided stretcher facility and other medical assistance including a nurse.

A fall from the stairs at the office of Al Anood Building Maintenance company – where he was working – on September 19 changed Nair’s life. He suffered head injuries and was admitted to the ICU in Saqr Hospital. He was shifted to normal ward six days ago. Instead of returning home, Nair will be admitted to the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

The brother of the victim reached the UAE on a visit visa along with his son to assist Nair after the accident and was eagerly waiting to take his injured brother to his home town.
“It was very difficult for us to come here as we didn’t have money,” said the victim’s elder brother, Soman Nair before they left. “But we managed to purchase the flight tickets and came. Our family is still in shock and they are worried about my brother’s condition. We are just praying that we reach safely and he gets well soon”.

India People’s Forum (IPF) members took the initiative to resolve the case in a short span of time and to get the necessary approvals done from the Indian consulate in Dubai.
